Since its first creation in 1932, Zippo lighters have passed the tests through time and environments over and over again. Coming to the 90th years, nothing much has changed in its designs and workings.
Though the components may seem perplexing, its functional concept is too simple to comprehend! Thus foolproof, and effective in about ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

FOOD FOR THE FLAMES
Petrol lighters including a Zippo, burn on Lighter fluid/Lighter Fuel. It is a highly purified Petroleum Distillate being clear colored, strong smelling, highly volatile compound flammable to any open source of ignition such as a spark.
Breaking down the devise
A Zippo lighter is first separated into 2 main parts.
1) Casing: Hollow body & a lid, jointed by the hinge.
2) Insert: Built with most functional components of the lighter.
The insert, is further broken down into finer details

FUEL STORAGE AND TRANSMISSION
The hollow Fuel Chamber, is stuffed with pieces of cotton/Rayon balls. Intertwined among them is a cord identified as a wick.
A rectangular Felt Padding, covers ALL these packings at the bottom.
Lighter Fluid/Fuel is filled into the Fuel chamber, where these cotton/Rayon balls retain them.
The Wick, transmits the fuel UP towards the Chimney for ignition and burn.

IGNITION and BURN
A Flint, is pushed up against the spark wheel by a Flint Spring, securely screwed at its base.
Upon turning of the spark wheel: Frictions & abrasions against the Flint produce showers of HOT SPARKS, firing the Fuel soaked Wick.
The flame burns on..... Till the lid is closed shut, snuffing it OUT.
I now ask. What does this lighter partly resemble?
